Discord’s New Logo
A look into Discord’s new logo and why the community is in full backlash mode
A few days ago, Discord unveiled its new logo as the popular app celebrated its 6th birthday and it suffices to say, that the reception hasn’t been all that warm. To put it in layman's terms, Discord has become the new member in the long line of software companies that have ruined their iconic logos to favor something more “minimalistic”.
The official Discord Twitter account on May 13 tweeted this post and gave the world a glimpse of the new Discord Logo, much to the community’s dismay
Discord’s rebranding had people in confusion and the new logo seems to add more fuel to the fire. Users have rightfully expressed their dislike for the new logo. As seen from the tweet, The font looks very stale and corporate-Esque unlike the creative slick font of the old one. Clyde(logo), Discord’s official mascot, seems to have been given a makeover as well and looks far less expressive and more soulless in his expressions.
This stunt did not sit well with the majority of the Reddit fanbase either and as we all know, when people do not like something, the memes will come flooding in. Memes were being created instantly ridiculing their new logo and some even taking the task of redesigning the logo onto their own hands.
The soulless style that is called “minimalistic” has been in trend with the big tech companies as of late. The likes of Microsoft, Firefox, Google, and a few others, have all gone through this process of artistic degradation. Users have also associated this new trend in logo style with the downgrade of quality service provided by these big tech companies and many even claim that these types of “clean” design are signs of the death of creativity and replacing artistic integrity with corporate greed. Only time will tell whether the predictions come true with the case of Discord as well.
